Welcome to Lake Östen

Lake Östen in southern Sweden is famous for its resting geese. During the spring and autumn, more than 10,000 Bean Geese rest in the area. In recent years, the maximum number in the autumn has actually exceeded 20,000. This is a fairly large percentage of the global population.

Seeing or perhaps first and foremost hearing Bean Geese at dawn is a fantastic experience.

To make this easier, there are three bird towers around the lake. There are also a couple of walking tracks which start at the beautiful information centre at Logården - on the western side of the lake. See the map to the left.

Lake Östen is situated in the Municipalities of Töreboda, Mariestad and Skövde in the County of Västra Götaland. Lake Hornborga is just a few kilometres to the south. Both these lakes are classified as important international bird lakes.

LAKE ÖSTEN is managed by the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland.

Logården is a natural meeting point for visitors to Lake Östen. It has a large parking lot, walking tracks and an information centre and cafeteria.

If the information centre is closed during your visit, you can study the lake at an outdoor exhibition.
